The New Jersey Devils are bringing back defenceman Sami Vatanen on a one-year deal worth $2 million, the team announced on Thursday.
Vatanen spent part of last season with the Devils before being traded to the Carolina Hurricanes for forward prospect Janne Kuokkanen, defenceman Fredrik Claesson and a conditional 2020 fourth-round draft. In 47 games during the regular season, all for New Jersey, Vatanen had five goals and 23 points while adding three points in seven games in the post-season for Carolina.
The 29-year-old joined the Devils in 2017 after he was traded by the Anaheim Ducks in a deal for Adam Henrique.
