New Jersey Devils defenceman Brendan Smith was suspended two games for slashing and Philadelphia Flyers forward Travis Konecny was fined for cross-checking, the NHL's department of player safety announced Friday.
Konecny was fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement, for cross-checking Smith.
The incident occurred at 17:07 of the third period of the teams' game Thursday. Smith was given a minor for slashing.
Under the CBA, based on his average annual salary, Smith forfeits $11,458.34, which goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
