Dmitry Orlov signs two-year, $15.5M deal with Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes have signed veteran defenceman Dmitry Orlov to a two-year, $15.5-million contract, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported Saturday.

The Washington Capitals dealt Orlov to the league-leading Boston Bruins at last season’s trade deadline.

The Bruins ended up losing in the first round to the Florida Panthers.Orlov had a combined seven goals and 29 assists for 36 points in 66 games for the Bruins and the Capitals last season.

He added eight assists in the playoffs.The Russian has 64 goals and 209 assists for 273 points in 709 career games with the Bruins and Capitals.

Before the trade, Orlov was looking for a seven-year commitment from the Caps, and Washington GM Brian MacLellan only wanted to go three or four years, according to an Elliotte Friedman report.

Orlov won a Stanley Cup with the Capitals in 2018.
