Montreal Canadiens forward Mike Hoffman will miss at least one week with an upper-body injury and goaltender Jake Allen is day-to-day with a concussion, head coach Dominique Ducharme announced Tuesday. Both players are out Tuesday versus the New York Rangers.
Ducharme also announced forward Jonathan Drouin will return from a six-game absence since being hit in the head by teammate Brett Kulak’s shot on Nov. 2.
The Canadiens also placed forward Adam Brooks on waivers Tuesday.
Allen was hurt following a collision with Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin, who was shoved into the goaltender by Montreal defenceman Jeff Petry in Saturday’s loss.
Samuel Montembault, 25, came in following the collision and started the Canadiens’ 5-2 loss to the Boston Bruins on Sunday. Ducharme announced 22-year-old netminder Cayden Primeau, who has six career appearances, will start Tuesday.
Hoffman missed Sunday’s game against the Bruins. The 31-year-old winger missed the first three games of the season with a lower-body injury after signing a three-year, $13.5 million deal this off-season. He has four goals and three assists for the 4-11-2 Canadiens this season.
