Anaheim Ducks rookie Leo Carlsson had to leave Thursday's game against the Chicago Blackhawks after suffering a lower-body injury following a knee-on-knee collision with Alex Vlasic. The team announced that he would not return to the game.
The incident occurred near the end of the second period of the game as the two skaters tried to collapse on a puck being cleared from the Ducks' zone.
The collision would send Carlsson to the ice, where he would stay before being helped off by the team. He was unable to put weight on his right leg as he went to the locker room.
Carlsson has missed time this season with leg injuries. He began the season on the IR after sustaining a lower-body injury in practice. He then suffered another leg injury after Mackenzie Weegar fell on his leg in the Ducks' game against the Calgary Flames on Dec. 21. He would end up missing four weeks, returning to action on Jan. 15.
The 19-year-old was selected second overall in this past year's NHL entry draft. He has nine goals and 24 assists in 42 games this season.
