There was nearly a goalie fight in Tuesday's game between the Anaheim Ducks and Chicago Blackhawks, and John Gibson was ejected for his role in it.
The third period brawl began behind the Chicago net during a commercial break when Ducks forward Mason McTavish and Blackhawks defenceman Jared Tinordi began pushing each other. Players from both teams quickly joined in and Ducks defenceman Radko Gudas and Blackhawks forward MacKenzie Entwistle began to fight each other.
Blackhawks goalie Petr Mrazek, seeing Gudas hitting Entwistle, jumped to his teammate's defence. That move by Mrazek prompted Gibson, who was at the Ducks bench, to skate all the way down the ice to grab his opposing netminder.
While Gibson and Mrazek didn't exchange blows both were given penalties on the play. Mrazek was given a 10-minute misconduct but was allowed to stay in the game, but Gibson was given a game misconduct for leaving the crease and had to leave the game.
Lukas Dostal replaced Gibson for the remainder of the game, which the Blackhawks won 7-2.
