Ducks' obtain Del Zotto in three-team deal with Red Wings, Panthers

Veteran defenceman Michael Del Zotto is headed back to Anaheim as part of a three-team trade completed on Monday involving the Red Wings and Panthers.

Florida sent Del Zotto, 32, to the Ducks, while receiving winger Givani Smith from Detroit, who obtained centre Danny O’Regan from Anaheim.

Del Zotto, a veteran of 736 NHL games, has two goals and 10 points in 25 games this season with the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League. The native of Stouffville, Ont., has 284 points during his NHL career, which has seen him play in New York, Nashville, Philadelphia, Vancouver, Columbus, St. Louis, Ottawa, and previously in Anaheim, after being drafted by the Rangers in the first round in 2008.

Smith, 24, from Toronto, is a former second-round pick of Detroit in 2016. He has seven goals and 14 points in 85 NHL games over the course of four seasons. Smith has played in just two games this season with the Red Wings.

O'Regan was born in Berlin, where his father played professional hockey, but grew up in the U.S. The 28-year-old has one goal and five assists in 30 NHL games, with San Jose, Buffalo, and Anaheim. He was a fifth-round pick by the Sharks in 2012.
