The Anaheim Ducks have recalled Trevor Zegras from the AHL, opening the door for the star centre to make his NHL debut this week.
Zegras, 19, has four goals and nine points in eight AHL games this season. He turned pro this season after one season at Boston University, where he had 36 points in 33 games as a freshman last season.
Zegras gained international attention when he led the United States to world junior gold in Edmonton in January, winning the tournament MVP award after leading all scorers with 18 points in seven games.
The Ducks currently sit last in the West Division with a 6-9-3 record and scoring has been an issue through the first five weeks of the season. The team is dead-last in goals per-game at 1.83 and has the second-worst power play, converting on only 7.5 per cent of chances so far.
The Ducks next play Monday in Arizona against the Coyotes.
