McTavish — a gritty, goal-scoring centre — spent the 2020-21 season on EHC Olten of the Swiss League, the country’s second division, with the OHL sidelined due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 18-year-old, who has drawn comparisons to Anders Lee due to his combination of brawn and skill, put up 11 points in 13 games, leading all 19-and-under players in points per game (.85). The six-foot-one, 207-pound power forward added seven points in four playoff games.
McTavish also helped Canada to a gold medal at the IIHF U18 World Championships in Texas, finishing fifth in tournament scoring with five goals and six assists across seven games.
Additionally, the Ducks announced Friday that they’ve signed 2021 second-round pick (34th overall) Olen Zellweger and 2021 third-rounder Sasha Pastujov to three-year, entry-level deals.
