Anaheim Ducks star forward Trevor Zegras was listed as day-to-day with an upper body injury on Sunday after being rocked by an open-ice hit in a pre-season game on Wednesday night.
Zegras had just collected the puck in the neutral zone and was cutting across the red line when Jan Jenik of the Arizona Coyotes caught him with his shoulder, sending the 21-year-old crumpling to the ice.
Zegras had 23 goals and 38 assists for the Ducks last season and is a former ninth-overall draft pick for the team.
Zegras is credited with bringing excitement and skill to the NHL last season, scoring a lacrosse-style goal against the Canadiens in January, after previously setting up teammate Sonny Milano against Buffalo in December for another that saw him flip the puck over the top of the net before it was batted in.
Zegras was expected to skate at practice on Sunday, according to the Ducks.
