A week and a half removed from placing Jack Campbell on waivers, the Edmonton Oilers are continuing their search for another goaltender.
With Campbell in the AHL with the Bakersfield Condors, Stuart Skinner is being backed up by Calvin Pickard, who has not played in the NHL since the 2021-22 season.
Pickard, 31, has a 3.04 goals-against average and .903 save percentage over 116 career NHL games.
"The Oilers do continue to look at the goaltender market," said Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman during the "Saturday Headlines" segment on Hockey Night in Canada. "A number of teams who were in Montreal said that Edmonton was there looking at all three of Montreal's goaltenders. I don't believe there's anything imminent there, I just think it's the Oilers continuing to do their due diligence."
The Oilers (5-10-1) ended their three-game winning streak with a 6-4 loss against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday — their first under new head coach Kris Knoblauch.
Just 16 games into the season, Skinner has already made 12 appearances for the Oilers (11 were starts), recording a 2.86 goals-against average and .907 save percentage.
"(Edmonton) is determined not to make a panic trade that they'll regret, but there's no question that with every loss — like the one they had this afternoon — the focus continues more on them," Friedman said.
