Phil 'The Thrill' Kessel has a new nickname: Iron Man.
The Vegas Golden Knights stamped his name into the history books Tuesday when he skated in his 990th consecutive game. He then added a second milestone with a goal in the first period, the 400th tally of his career to become just the 12th America-born player to score that many times.
The well-travelled Kessel has picked up fans everywhere he's played, from Boston to Toronto, through Pittsburgh and Arizona, and now Vegas. He became a bit of a folk hero for his durability, despite a reputation as someone who didn't stick to a diet for too long.
Now, all that hard work has paid off with a night he'll never forget. And fans were quick to celebrate.
