The Calgary Flames have officially named forwards Jonathan Huberdeau, Elias Lindholm and defenceman Rasmus Andersson and Chris Tanev alternate captains for the 2023-24 season.
The four will join the Flames' leadership group led by new captain Mikael Backlund.
Operating without a captain last season, Backlund, Linholm, Huberdeau and Tanev served as the team's alternate captains.
Backlund is set to serve as the 21st captain in franchise history and the first since Mark Giordano was in the 2020-21 season.
"Couldn't happen to a better guy," Giordano said. "He's going to be a great captain. He was already a great leader for a long time for them. On and off the ice, he's everything you really want in a leader."
The Flames will kick off their regular season at home on Nov. 11 when they welcome the Winnipeg Jets to the Scotiabank Saddledome.
