Calgary Flames defenceman Oliver Kylington will not participate in the start of training camp, the team announced Thursday.
A statement from the Flames said the decision was made after medical and fitness testing on Wednesday. No other details were release as the Flames called the situation a private and personal matter.
Kylington, 26, missed the entire 2022-23 season for personal reasons.
In May, Flames president of hockey operations Don Maloney said the club anticipated Kylington would return for the 2023-24 season.
"It certainly seems he's in a very good place," Maloney said at a press conference announcing the firing of head coach Darryl Sutter. "Told me he's excited about coming back next season, which is very positive for the organization."
Kylington, a native of Stockholm, Sweden, played in a career-high 73 games in 2021-22, scoring 31 points and posting a plus-34.
In August 2022, Calgary signed Kylington to a two-year contract with an average annual value of $2.5 million.
