Calgary Flames forward Jakob Pelletier will have surgery on his left shoulder and will be out indefinitely, the team announced Wednesday.
The incident happened late in the first period of Monday's pre-season game against the Seattle Kraken as the Flames were making a final push in the offensive zone. Pelletier received the puck on a zone-entry and was pushed from behind into the boards by Studenic shortly thereafter. Pelletier appeared to be favouring his chest and shoulder area after the hit as he exited the ice with a trainer.
Studenic was assessed a five-minute major penalty for boarding and was ejected from the game.
Pelletier, 22, dressed for 23 games last season with the Flames, netting three goals and dishing out seven assists. He was selected by Calgary at 26th overall in the 2019 NHL Draft.
