Calgary Flames forward Jonathan Huberdeau was tossed from Thursday's game after receiving a five-minute major penalty and game misconduct for boarding Columbus Blue Jackets' Jack Roslovic.
Huberdeau hit Roslovic in the numbers midway through the third, with the Blue Jackets forward going face-first into the boards. Roslovic was able to skate off the ice on his own, but appeared to be covered in blood as he made his way to the locker room.
Huberdeau was immediately assessed a major penalty, which was upheld upon review.
The Flames were one forward short going into the third period after a gruesome injury to AJ Greer sidelined him for the remainder of the game.
The Blue Jackets scored once on the ensuing five-minute power play.
Huberdeau, in his second year in Calgary, has six goals and 26 points in 46 games.
