Calgary Flames winger Jakob Pelletier is set to make his season debut with the team's AHL affiliate, the Calgary Wranglers, on Friday after suffering a shoulder injury in the pre-season.
Pelletier, 22, required surgery on the shoulder and has yet to play a single game this season either in the NHL or AHL.
In 24 games last season with the Flames, Pelletier recorded three goals and seven assists. In 34 appearances with the Wranglers, he notched 16 goals and 21 assists. The Quebec native was selected by Calgary at 26th overall in the 2019 NHL Draft.
Pelletier would have made the Flames' opening day roster if he had been healthy so, if all goes well with his return, a call-up to the NHL club may be on the horizon this season.
Meanwhile, centre Kevin Rooney, who also suffered a shoulder injury and required surgery during the pre-season, is set to make his season debut in the same game.
Rooney, 30, spent most of last season with the Wranglers, recording five goals and 12 assists in 51 games. In 17 games with the Flames, he registered a lone assist.
