The Calgary Flames will start the season without their leading goal scorer from 2023-24.
The Flames placed forward Yegor Sharangovich on injured reserve Monday with a lower-body injury he sustained in the final minutes of their pre-season finale against the Winnipeg Jets on Friday. Calgary described Sharangovich's recovery timeline as "week-to-week."
Sharangovich, 26, suffered the injury versus the Jets with four minutes remaining in the third period when Winnipeg forward Vladislav Namestnikov fell onto his right leg near the boards.
It's a big blow for the Flames as Sharangovich was one of the lone bright spots from a disappointing 2023-24 season.
In his first full season in Calgary, Sharangovich recorded 31 goals and 28 assists for 59 points — all career highs.
The Flames rewarded his breakout campaign with a five-year, $28.75-million extension this off-season.
Calgary opens its regular season on Wednesday in Vancouver against the Canucks.
