Two players were placed on NHL waivers on Tuesday: Nicolas Meloche of the Calgary Flames and Jonas Johansson of the Arizona Coyotes.
It had been speculated that the Flames would expose Meloche, from Lasalle, Que., to waivers in order to send him to their farm team. The defenceman has eight points in 57 games with the San Jose Sharks over the past two seasons. He was a 40th overall pick of the Colorado Avalanche in 2015.
The Coyotes claimed Johansson off waivers from the Colorado Avalanche. The 6-foot-5 Swedish goalie was originally drafted in 2014 in the third round by Buffalo. The 27-year-old had a 3-4-1 record with a 4.81 goals against average and an .852 save percentage in 11 games with the Avalanche and Florida Panthers in 2021-22.
