The Calgary Flames made a pair of moves on Thursday, recalling forward Matt Coronato from the AHL's Calgary Wranglers while sending down forward Sam Honzek for assignment.
Coronato, 21, is a former 13th overall pick of the Flames in 2021 and has made 40 NHL appearances with the team through three seasons. He played in 34 games for Calgary during the 2023-24 campaign, tallying nine points (three goals, six assists) and seven hits in 12:37 of average ice time.
This year, Coronato has scored two goals and has 10 hits in five games played with the Flames.
Meanwhile, Honzek goes down to the AHL a day after the Flames activated the former 16th overall pick in 2023 from injured reserve. Honzek sustained an upper-body injury in mid-October after four appearances with the Flames. The 19-year-old tallied six shots on goal and four hits while averaging 12:47 of ice time during that stint.
The Slovakian also impressed throughout the pre-season, logging seven points. Last year Honzek logged 10 goals and had 31 points through 33 WHL games with the Vancouver Giants.
