Fresh off trading Nikita Zadorov, the Calgary Flames recalled defenceman Ilya Solovyov from the AHL's Calgary Wranglers, the team announced Friday.
Solovyov recorded two goals and three assists in 16 games with the Wranglers.
The 23-year-old defenceman made his NHL debut earlier this season, appearing in two games for the Flames on Oct. 26 and 29. He averaged 16:35 of ice time.
Solovyov was selected by the Flames in the seventh round of the 2020 NHL Draft.
The Flames made headlines Thursday night by trading Zadorov to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange or a fifth-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft and a third-round pick in 2026.
Trading Zadorov opens the door for prospects like Solovyov to get their chance at the NHL level. Calgary has already had some success with that this year, as both Connor Zary and Martin Pospisil have become key contributors after being called up from the Wranglers.
The Flames (10-10-3) have won three of their past four games and have climbed back into the playoff race in the Western Conference.
