Chris Tanev was back at practice after taking a puck to the face and defenceman Jordan Oesterle was called up from the AHL's Calgary Wranglers, the Calgary Flames announced on Wednesday.
Defenceman Tanev left Tuesday's game against the Golden Knights late in the third after he dove to block a William Karlsson wrist shot and got the puck directly in the face. He dropped to the ice immediately holding his face.
He told reporters Wednesday that he took the puck off the chin and needed approximately 12 stitches.
"Probably not the smartest play... but it was the only way I was going to get in front of the puck," Tanev said on Wednesday.
Goalie Jacob Markstrom also returned after being sidelined with an illness.
After being placed on waivers by the Flames four weeks ago and sent down to the AHL, the 31-year-old Oesterle is being brought back up for another shot.
Oesterle signed with the team this off-season on a one-year deal worth $925,000 but has yet to live up to it as he was a healthy scratch through all but four games before going to the AHL.
He's registered 84 points (19 goals and 65 assists) through 353 career games but has yet to register a point this season.
Oesterle and the Flames will return to action on Thursday when they host the Dallas Stars.
