The Calgary Flames have recalled forward Matt Coronato from the Calgary Wranglers of the AHL.
The Flames will turn to Dan Vladar in goal against the Oilers with Jacob Markstrom serving as the team's backup. Adam Klapka is expected to make his NHL debut on the fourth line with Dillon Dube absent from morning skate.
Coronato has appeared in 27 games for the Wranglers this season, notching 12 goals and a team-leading 29 points. He was named to the AHL All-Star Classic for 2024.
The 21-year-old has also played in 11 games with the Flames this season where he has two points.
An upper-body injury to Martin Pospisil Thursday night, which will likely keep him out of the lineup until after the all-star break, opens the door for Coronato to be recalled to slide into a second-line role alongside Nazem Kadri and Connor Zary.
“Every game he leads the team in scoring chances,” said GM Craig Conroy of Coronato during last weekend’s trip through Vegas. “He continues to be the guy who generates a ton.”
The Flames face the Oilers in Calgary on Saturday night for the first time this season. That game can be seen at 10 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. MT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
