The Calgary Flames have recalled standout AHL goaltender Dustin Wolf from the Calgary Wranglers, the team announced Thursday.
The 22-year-old netminder has a .924 save percentage and a 2.34 GAA in six games for the Wranglers this season.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman believes the move is being made more for injury protection, rather than a possible upcoming trade. Dan Vladar and Jacob Markstrom also are on the Flames' roster. Markstrom missed Wednesday's practice for maintenance.
Wolf is one of the top goaltender prospects in the league, and led the AHL in most of the main goalie categories last season. In 53 games for the Wranglers in 2022-23, Wolf had a 2.08 goals-against average, .932 save percentage and seven shutouts, all of which led the league.
The Gilroy, Calif. native made his NHL debut for the Flames last season when he made 23 saves in a 3-1 win over the San Jose Sharks.
Calgary (4-7-1) has had a disappointing start to the 2023-24 season, but has won its last two games after infusing some youth into the lineup.
