The Calgary Flames are recalling forward Justin Kirkland from the AHL Wranglers.
Kirkland, 27, joined Calgary on a one-year, two-way contract this past off-season.
Kirkland spent the 2023-24 season in the Arizona Coyotes organization, playing in two NHL games and 43 AHL games with the Tucson Roadrunners. While he didn't record any points with the Coyotes, the Winnipeg native scored eight goals and tallied 30 AHL points.
To make room for Kirkland on the roster, the team has placed Kevin Rooney on injured reserve.
Rooney was labelled as day-to-day after exiting Wednesday's 6-5 OT win over the Vancouver Canucks.
Midway through the first period, Rooney was attempting to clear the puck from the Flames' defensive zone, but was hit by Canucks forward J.T. Miller, who sent him crashing into the side boards.
Rooney left the ice with assistance and was evaluated for a concussion.
