The Calgary Flames released unrestricted free agents Sonny Milano and Cody Eakin from their professional tryouts on Thursday.

The two forwards were trying to land a spot with the Flames, but will now have to look elsewhere for an NHL job this season.

Milano, 26, was drafted by Columbus, where he played parts of five seasons before being traded to Anaheim in 2020. He has 81 points in 197 NHL games, including 14 last season with the Ducks in 66 contests.

Eakin, 31, was drafted by the Capitals and spent time in Washington, Dallas, and most recently Buffalo, collecting 256 points in 701 NHL games.

The club also assigned 21-year-old goalie Dustin Wolf to its farm team.
