Simon was slated for restricted free agency, but the Pittsburgh Penguins did not extend him a qualifying offer — thus making him an unrestricted free agent. He will be an arbitration-eligible RFA at the end of next season.
The 26-year-old skated in 64 games for the Penguins in 2019-20, registering seven goals and 22 points with a minus-9 rating. He did not dress for any of the Penguins’ post-season games.
