Calgary Flames defenceman Chris Tanev exited Monday's game against the Colorado Avalanche early in the first period after taking a big hit from Avalanche forward Ross Colton and did not return.
The hit occurred less than 30 seconds into the contest. Tanev was able to make it to the bench unassisted but immediately headed down the tunnel to the locker room.
Colton was not assessed a penalty on the play and the Flames went on to lose the game 6-5.
Head coach Ryan Huska had no update on Tanev's condition when speaking with reporters after the game.
Tanev is one of the Flames players involved in a lot of trade speculation to start the season. A long-term injury to the veteran could complicate the decision for Flames GM Craig Conroy.
The 33-year-old defenceman came into Monday's contest with one goal and six assists in 27 games.
