Calgary Flames forward Andrew Mangiapane and defenceman Oliver Kylington will miss the start of training camp, general manager Brad Treliving announced Wednesday.
Mangiapane "tweaked something" in the off-season and will be absent for the first couple days of camp, but has been skating on his own. Kylington will miss the opening due to a personal family issue.
In the off-season, Mangiapane agreed to a new three-year, $17.4-million contract with the Flames. The 26-year-old is coming off a career 2021-22 season in which he scored 35 goals and 55 points while playing in all 82 games. He added six more points in 12 playoff games.
Kylington and the Flames avoided arbitration and settled on a two-year, $5-million deal in the summer, keeping the blueliner under contract until the end of the 2023-24 season.
Additionally, Treliving said defenceman Chris Tanev will be on the ice to open camp. The 12-year veteran might skip some early pre-season games, but is expected to get full medical clearance.
The Flames finished the 2021-22 regular season as the Pacific Division champions with a 50-21-211 record before falling to their cross-province rivals Edmonton Oilers in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
