The Matthew Tkachuk sweepstakes wrapped up late Friday night with the Florida Panthers walking away with the big prize, and social media is exploding.
Despite not operating with a lot of leverage, Calgary GM Brad Treliving reeled in a haul— the Panthers gave up All-Star winger Jonathan Huberdeau, MacKenzie Weegar, a good prospect and a conditional first-round pick in 2025.
It was a lot to give up, even for a 100-point scorer who does it all like Tkachuk, but it won't be until Huberdeau and Weegar decide on their future in Calgary (Tkachuk immediately signed an extension with Florida) that we can get a better sense of who won the trade.
