The Philadelphia Flyers have acquired defenceman Tony DeAngelo and pick No. 220 of the 2022 NHL Draft from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for pick No. 101, a third-round pick in 2023 and a second-round pick in 2024.
DeAngelo, who was a pending restricted free agent, is signing a two-year extension worth $5 million a season following the trade.
DeAngelo produced 10 goals and 41 assists with a plus-30 rating in 64 games with the Hurricanes last season.
Prior to joining the Hurricanes, DeAngelo played four seasons with the New York Rangers and one with Arizona Coyotes — where he began his NHL career.
In 2019-20, DeAngelo broke out with 15 goals and 38 assists in 68 games for the Rangers, but the following year he was at the centre of a lot of controversy on and off the ice, culminating in an altercation with then-teammate Alexandar Georgiev outside the locker room following an overtime loss. He was subsequently bought out by New York.
