Flyers' Claude Giroux, Ivan Provorov enter COVID-19 protocols

The Philadelphia Flyers will be without two key stars for the foreseeable future after defenceman Ivan Provorov and captain Claude Giroux entered COVID-19 protocols Tuesday.

An unnamed staff member has also entered protocols.

Giroux has been one of the Flyers’ most consistent forwards this season and leads the team with 29 points in 32 games.

Provorov has never missed a game in his six seasons since making his debut at the start of the 2016-17 campaign. In 32 games this season he has 13 points and is skating a team-high 24:26 a night.

The announcement comes one day after depth players Nick Seeler and Jackson Cates entered protocols. The team is also currently playing without two other important players — centre Sean Couturier (upper-body) and defenceman Ryan Ellis (lower-body) who are both week-to-week.

The Flyers conclude a four-game west coast road trip Tuesday night in Anaheim against the Ducks. You can watch the game on Sportsnet and SN NOW beginning at 10 p.m. ET/ 7 p.m. PT.
