The Philadelphia Flyers, New Jersey Devils and Calgary Flames have been informed by the NHL that they will receive salary cap relief for players charged in relation to the 2018 World Junior sexual assault case, Sportsnet can confirm.
Four active NHL players — Devils' Michael McLeod and Cal Foote, Flames' Dillon Dube and Flyers' Carter Hart — have been charged with sexual assault dating back to an alleged incident that took place in June 2018 in London, Ont.
All five individuals who were charged, including former Ottawa Senator Alex Formenton, surrendered to London police separately and are on indefinite leave from their respective teams.
Hart, 25, is under contract for the remainder of this season with a $3.979 million average annual value.
Dube, 25, is also in the final year of his contract with an average annual value of $2.3 million.
Foote, 25, and McLeod, are in the final year of their contracts with a combined average annual value of $2.2 million.
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman told reporters during the All-Star Weekend that the league was going to "await the conclusion of the judicial proceedings" before making a determination on the players' future.
All four active players are pending restricted free agents.
