Former Calgary Wranglers head coach Mitch Love has joined the Washington Capitals as an assistant, the team announced on Thursday.
Love is coming off coaching the Wranglers to an AHL-best 51-17-3-1 record in 2022-23 and two straight AHL Coach of the Year awards.
The 39-year-old Love was reportedly in the mix for the Flames job that went to former assistant Ryan Huska, who was hired after head coach Darryl Sutter was fired when Calgary missed the playoffs.
Love will primarily work with the Capitals' defencemen and joins assistant coach Scott Allen and goaltending coach Scott Murray on head coach Spencer Carbery’s staff.
Carbery came over from the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he was an assistant under Sheldon Keefe.
