Former Maple Leafs assistant coach Dean Chynoweth joins Jets coaching staff

The Winnipeg Jets have added Dean Chynoweth and Davis Payne as assistant coaches on Scott Arniel's staff.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman recently reported on the 32 Thoughts Podcast that Chynoweth was being considered for a position in Winnipeg. The Toronto Maple Leafs announced on June 5 that he would not return to their staff under new head coach Craig Berube.

Chynoweth joined the Maple Leafs as an assistant coach in July of 2021 after spending three seasons in a similar role with the Carolina Hurricanes. Chynoweth was in charge of the Leafs' defence and penalty-killing duties until Mike Van Ryn was brought in last season and Chynoweth was limited to just overseeing the penalty-killing duties.
