Patrick Kane could be getting closer to making a decision on where to sign for the remainder of the season.
The 34-year-old Kane, who had hip-resurfacing surgery on June 1, is an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career after finishing last season with the New York Rangers.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman believes it could be a very big week ahead for Kane.
"I think it’s possible he’s going to start narrowing down some of the teams that he’s interested in and are interested in him," Friedman said during Saturday Headlines on Hockey Night in Canada. "I still think he’s a few weeks away from playing, but I think we’re getting at least a few days closer to him narrowing down the list."
Kane recorded 57 points — 21 goals and 36 assists — in 73 games last season with the Chicago Blackhawks and Rangers, who acquired him at the trade deadline.
The agency representing Kane released a video in September showing him appearing to run full-speed through on-ice drills as well as several weight and balance training sessions off the ice.
The Buffalo native has 1,237 points — 451 goals and 786 assists — in 1,180 games over 16 seasons with the Blackhawks and Rangers. He won the Stanley Cup three times with the Blackhawks and earned the Hart Trophy as league MVP in 2016 plus the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP in 2013.
