Gabriel Landeskog surprises Erik Johnson for 1,000 game ceremony

After 12 years together on the Colorado Avalanche, Gabriel Landeskog wasn't going to miss Erik Johnson's 1,000th NHL game celebration.

In a surprise appearance on Monday night, Landeskog joined Johnson on the ice to present him with a framed portrait to celebrate the milestone.

The Philadelphia Flyers defenceman played his 1,000th game on Nov. 16 against the Buffalo Sabres, but the Flyers didn't celebrate the accomplishment until they were back home and facing his former team, Colorado, on Monday.

The 36-year-old was drafted first overall by the St. Louis Blues in 2006 and has spent 17 seasons in the league.

Johnson played 717 of his 1,000 games for Colorado, most of them with Landeskog as his captain.

The pair was inseparable in their time on the Avalanche and they helped lead the team to a Stanley Cup in 2022. They were the longest-tenured veterans on the championship team.

After the 2022-2023 season, Johnson became a free agent and left the Avalanche to join the Sabres. At the trade deadline last season, he was moved to the Flyers.
