Golden Knights' Alex Pietrangelo away from team due to illness in family

Vegas Golden Knights defenceman Alex Pietrangelo is away from the team indefinitely because of an illness in the family, the club announced on Wednesday.

The team did not provide a timeline for how long Pietrangelo will be away from the team.

"The Vegas Golden Knights wholeheartedly support Alex and the Pietrangelos and ask that the family’s privacy be respected at this time," the team's statement wrote.

Pietrangelo has 21 points in 23 games this season and leads the Golden Knights in ice time, averaging 23:39 a night.

The 31-year-old missed the Golden Knights' last game against the Boston Bruins for personal reasons.

The team is also without forward Jack Eichel, who remains day-to-day with a lower-body injury.
