  • Guentzel agrees to seven-year deal with Lightning

The Jake Guentzel sweepstakes have officially come to an end.

The Tampa Bay Lightning and the scoring winger have come to terms on a seven-year contract with a $9 million annual cap hit.

Guentzel, 29, was acquired by the Hurricanes from the Pittsburgh Penguins at the 2024 trade deadline. He played 17 regular-season games with the club, registering eight goals and 25 points. In 11 playoff games, he added four goals and nine points.

The Hurricanes traded away the rights to Guentzel late Sunday morning after it became clear that the forward was not going to re-sign with the club. The Hurricanes received a 2025 third-round pick in return.

The two-time 40-goal scorer played parts of eight seasons with the Penguins, where he won back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2016 and 2017. He was selected in the third round by Pittsburgh at the 2013 NHL Draft.
