The Boston Bruins are sitting comfortably atop the league, with 97 points on the season, only eight regulation losses and a 0.819 points percentage. On Saturday night against the Vancouver Canucks, however, the Bruins did something they had yet to achieve both this season and in the history of their storied franchise: score a goalie goal.
Coming down to the wire on a closely fought 2-1 game, the game was hardly over as speedy Russian winger Andrei Kuzmenko has developed a habit of scoring late-tying goals. The Bruins needed insurance, and they found it in the most entertaining of ways.
With the Canucks net empty and the clock ticking down, Bruins goaltender Linus Ullmark lined the puck up at the goal line and sent it right down the middle of the ice, landing squarely in the back of the Vancouver net.
The first Bruin in franchise history and the first NHL goalie in three years to complete this feat, Ullmark's teammates celebrated handsomely as he led the congratulatory line down the bench.
Hockey fans and media alike set Twitter ablaze with their reactions to the ever-elusive goalie goal.
