The Winnipeg Jets can become the first Canadian team to book their ticket to the Stanley Cup Playoffs and don't need to play a game to clinch.
While the Jets are off on Saturday as they get set to host the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday, the team can clinch with some help.
If the St. Louis Blues lose to the Chicago Blackhawks in any fashion and the Vancouver Canucks lose in regulation to the New York Rangers, the Jets will earn a playoff berth.
This would make the Jets the second team in the league and the first in the Western Conference to earn a playoff spot.
The Washington Capitals became the first team to clinch a playoff berth earlier this week. Both Winnipeg and Washington are the only teams who have 100 points in the standings and are in a battle for the Presidents' Trophy.
In their history, the Jets have never won the Presidents' Trophy, which is awarded to the team with the most points during the regular season.
