If Florida Panthers winger Jonathan Huberdeau could participate in the Hart Trophy voting, he knows who would get his vote.
"(Auston) Matthews is having a great year, so I think I'd probably give it to him," Huberdeau told the assembled media ahead of Saturday's meeting between the Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs. "He's special. ... You give him the puck and he's going to score every time. Not a lot of guys can get close to 60 goals."
Heading into Saturday's game, Matthews leads the NHL with 58 goals and is fifth in scoring with 102 points despite missing eight games. He was ruled out of the last three games due to injury, but will make his return on Saturday to add to those numbers.
Matthews is expected to contest the Hart vote with Connor McDavid, Johnny Gaudreau, Roman Josi, Cale Makar and Igor Shesterkin.
