Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Frederik Andersen was removed from a start against the San Jose Sharks after taking a puck to the mask in the first period.
The Hurricanes said Andersen was removed for precautionary reasons.
The injury occurred six minutes into the game after a point shot from Mike Hoffman deflected up and struck Andersen in the mask. The veteran goalie was visibly uncomfortable and, after speaking to a trainer, skated off the ice.
Antti Raanta replaced Andersen in the net.
Andersen, 34, entered the game with a 3.84 goals-against average and .867 save percentage in two starts this season, both wins.
