The Carolina Hurricanes have claimed goaltender Spencer Martin off waivers from the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The former Vancouver Canucks netminder had been waived by Columbus on Thursday to clear out a crowded crease that included Elvis Merzlikins and de facto No. 1 goalie Daniil Tarasov.
Martin, 28, had a .887 save percentage and 3.65 goals-against average in 13 games this season. He was claimed off waivers from the Canucks in September.
He joins a Hurricanes club that has been searching for additional help in the net, with Fredrick Andersen out long-term, and Pyotr Kochetkov and Antti Raanta each suffering various injuries throughout the season.
