The Carolina Hurricanes have retained forward Martin Nečas, signing him to a two-year deal worth $6 million, president and GM Don Waddell announced on Tuesday.
The contract will pay the 23-year-old $2.5 million this coming season and $3.5 million after that.
"Martin is a dynamic young playmaker," said Waddell in a statement. "He has an elite combination of speed and skill and we think he'll only continue to improve."
Nečas had 40 points (14 goals and 26 assists) in 78 NHL games with Carolina in 2022-23. He has 119 points, including 45 goals, in 203 career NHL games with the Hurricanes.
The six-foot-two, 189-pound native of Nove Mesto na Morave, Czechia, was drafted 12th overall by Carolina in 2017 and ranked second on the team in game-winning goals last season with six.
