The Carolina Hurricanes have signed centre Jamieson Rees to a three-year, entry-level contract, the team announced Wednesday.
The deal will pay Rees $700,000 in 2020-21, $750,000 in 2021-22 and $832,500 in 2022-23 at the NHL level. Rees will also be paid $70,000 at the American Hockey League (AHL) level for all three seasons and he will receive a signing bonus of $277,500.
“Jamieson is a skilled center with strong playmaking ability,” Hurricanes president and general manager Don Waddell said in a statement. “He made major strides in his development last season, and we’re looking forward to his next steps.”
Rees, 19, scored 18 goals and tallied 61 points in 39 games with the OHL's Sarnia Sting during the 2019-20 season. The Hamilton, Ont., native was tied for fourth in the OHL in shorthanded goals (5) and ranked 11th in points per game (1.56) last season.
In his OHL career, Rees has recorded 33 goals and 113 points in 122 games with Sarnia.
Rees was selected by Carolina in the second round of the 2019 NHL Draft, 44th overall.
