The Carolina Hurricanes have signed goaltender Spencer Martin to a one-year, $775,000 contract extension, the team announced Saturday.
The deal will keep him with the Hurricanes through the 2024-25 season.
“Spencer has been an excellent addition to our team,” said Hurricanes general manager Don Waddell in a statement. “He stepped right in and played well for us, and we’re excited to sign him for next season."
The Hurricanes have had goalie issues all season, with five different players manning the net for them so far: Pyotr Kochetkov (34 games), Antti Raanta (24), Frederik Andersen (9), Martin (5) and Yaniv Perets (1).
Carolina claimed Martin off waivers from the Columbus Blue Jackets on Jan. 19. In five appearances with the Hurricanes this season, he has a 4-0-1 record, 1.97 goals-against average and .922 save percentage.
The 28-year-old netminder has a career 21-25-7 record over 56 games with the Hurricanes, Blue Jackets, Vancouver Canucks and Colorado Avalanche.
