The Carolina Hurricanes are cornering the market on hockey-playing Slavins.
Carolina announced Sunday that it has signed forward Josiah Slavin, younger brother of current Hurricanes defenceman Jaccob Slavin, to a two-year, two-way contract.
The deal is worth $775,000 at the NHL level and $150,000 at the AHL level with a $450,000 guarantee.
“Josiah is a smart, two-way forward with good size,” said Carolina general manager Eric Tulsky in a release by the team. “He competes hard, brings high character and has some NHL experience. We’re thrilled to add him to our organization.”
Slavin, 25, scored 10 goals and registered 24 points over 70 games with the AHL's Toronto Marlies in 2023-24. Originally a seventh-round pick of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2018 draft, Slavin has played in 201 career AHL games between three franchises.
He appeared in 15 NHL games in 2021-22 with Chicago, picking up one assist and four penalty minutes.
