Gabriel Landeskog hasn’t suited up for any games this season but the Colorado Avalanche captain is working his way back from injury.
Elliotte Friedman reported Saturday during the 32 Thoughts segment of Hockey Night in Canada that Landeskog won’t suit up during the final week of the regular season, so when he makes his 2022-23 debut it’ll be in the playoffs.
Landeskog, who has been skating on his own, had 11 goals and 11 assists during the 2022 post-season and provided key leadership on and off the ice en route to the Avalanche winning the Stanley Cup.
The 30-year-old Swede underwent off-season knee surgery and recently joined his teammates on a road trip.
In other injury news, Tampa Bay Lightning forward Tanner Jeannot looks to have avoided serious injury after falling awkwardly on his right leg in a game this past week against the Islanders.
“There’s still no guarantee he’s gonna be ready face Toronto in the playoffs but the word is it wasn’t as serious as it could have been,” Friedman said.
The forward has played 20 games with the Lightning since being acquired in a trade with Nashville earlier this season.
Minnesota isn’t quite as optimistic about the lower-body injury Joel Eriksson Ek is dealing with. The Wild forward went down hard after blocking a shot against Pittsburgh on Thursday and it's unclear how long he'll be out of the lineup.
Friedman added there’s no confirmation on what the specific injury is but “it sounds like it’s something that’s gonna take some time to recover from.”
