New York Islanders winger Mathew Barzal was fined $5,000 on Sunday by the NHL's Department of Player Safety.
Barzal, 26, was fined for a high-sticking penalty he took on Hurricanes defenceman Tony DeAngelo during the second period of Saturday night's 4-3 overtime loss to Carolina.
The infraction was deemed a minor penalty at the time.
The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
